Intercona Architects was founded in Bandung in 2004 by four friends — David, Maureen, Wille, and Elies — two couples who shared the same foundation in architecture as graduates of the Department of Architecture at Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung.
What began as a collaboration between four young architects gradually developed into a practice shaped by shared ideas, friendship, and a common interest in creating thoughtful spaces.
During its early years, Intercona grew through the process of designing, building, learning, and responding to different clients, sites, programs, and constraints. Rather than pursuing a predetermined architectural style, the studio gradually developed an approach grounded in understanding the particular circumstances of each project.
A significant transition came in 2012, when Wille and Elies decided to return to their hometown. From that point forward, Intercona continued under David and Maureen, marking a new chapter in the studio’s evolution.
The transition did not redefine Intercona overnight. Instead, the practice continued to evolve organically — expanding its experience across architecture, interior design, site planning, and eventually a more integrated approach to design and construction.
Over the years, this close relationship between design and the realities of building has become an important part of Intercona’s way of working. Architecture is understood not simply as the creation of form, but as a continuous process connecting people, place, purpose, material, detail, and construction.
Twenty years after Intercona was founded, another important professional milestone was reached. In 2024, David obtained his Surat Tanda Registrasi Arsitek (STRA), followed in 2025 by a professional license to practice architecture in West Java.
Today, more than two decades after its establishment, Intercona Architects continues from Bandung under the direction of David and Maureen.
The scale and nature of its projects have evolved, but the fundamental attitude remains:
to listen before designing, to understand before proposing, and to seek solutions that are clear, purposeful, and appropriate to their context.
Intercona does not aspire to create buildings that all look the same.
Instead, the studio seeks consistency in the way it thinks.

Intercona Architects is established in Bandung by David, Maureen, Wille, and Elies, four friends and fellow architecture graduates of Parahyangan Catholic University.
Wille and Elies return to their hometown. David and Maureen continue the practice and lead Intercona into its next phase.
Intercona continues to develop through projects of different scales and typologies, progressively integrating architecture, interior design, site planning, and the realities of construction into its practice.
David obtains his Surat Tanda Registrasi Arsitek (STRA), marking an important milestone in the professional development of the practice.
David obtains his professional license to practice architecture in West Java.
Intercona continues to evolve as a Bandung-based architecture and design studio, carrying more than twenty years of accumulated experience while remaining open to new ideas, technologies, and ways of designing.
